Paget's disease of bone, or osteitis deformans, is discorder in which several bones, most often the pelvis, The lower limbs and the skull, gradually thicken. The disease involves abnormally fast bone destruction and reformation where the new bone matter is structurally abnormal and fragile. This Is a chronic, slowly progressive disease that mostly affects elderly people. It may be localized in one of two parts of the body or become widespread. The cause of the disorder is unknown, though recent research point to ganetic casues or viral infection. X-Rays and bone scane heplpdiagnose the condition, showing increased bone density and thickening. Blood tested show normal serum calcium with raised serum levels of the bone.
